Collection: Assateague Island Horses
The last day to place online orders to ensure holiday delivery is Tuesday, December 17th! All orders placed after that date are not guaranteed to ship in time to make the trip on Santa's sleigh.
AIA Offices will be CLOSED December 21, 2024 - January 2, 2025 so our volunteers and staff can enjoy the holidays with their families. Orders placed during that time will be processed in the order in which they were received when we resume buisiness in January. Thank you for your support in 2024!
Why foster a horse? Your symbolic foster is an ideal way to support the horses living wild and free among the Maryland herd on Assateague Island National Seashore. By fostering a horse, you are directly involved in preserving one of America’s most beloved wildlife treasures and their survival in one of the most fragile natural resources.
AIA would like to thank the photographers who have so graciously allowed us to use their beautiful photographs for the Foster Horse Program and our Assateague Island Horse ID app.

*Wild horses are just that, wild. Although the typical lifespan of an Assateague wild horse is 20 to 30 years, individual lifespans vary dramatically. Horses may live for many years or may meet an early demise through accident, disease, or unknown causes. There will be no intercession by the NPS. AIA will NEVER offer a foster horse if it is known to be deceased with the exception of a limited foster window following each horse's death. No refunds or exchanges will be available to foster horses that have passed. *

What happens with my donation?
Proceeds generated by the Foster Horse Program help fund Assateague Island National Seashore’s wild horse management program which is in place to maintain a healthy horse population, preserve their naturally social behaviors, and the island’s ecosystems on which they depend. In addition, as a “foster parent,” you will receive a deluxe padded folder with an 8” x 10” color photo of your horse, a detailed biography, a map indicating where your horse usually resides, and an official certificate recognizing your generous contribution. Additionally, you will receive a one-year subscription to the “Horse Tales” newsletter.
