Keiper #: N9BFT-KPW
"Flying Diamond" was given by Phyllis Miller of Huron, OH who held the winning ticket in the Name That Foal fundraising raffle. Phyllis and her family chose the name to honor how deeply woven Assateague Island is in the fabric of their lives. Phyllis' connection to Assateague Island began when she first saw the ocean here with her parents when she was just 4 years old, then was married on the beach overlooking the southern end of the island and continues today where she and her family camp every year. One of their favorite Assateague pastimes is star gazing, especially during meteor showers, where the shooting stars appear like flying diamonds. This colt was also born under a full moon with the moniker 'diamond moon' and under the peak of the Lyrid meteor shower which is one of the oldest-known meteor showers of record dating back to 687 BC. Diamond is also the birthstone for the month of April.
