Interesting Tidbits: Chance was living on the North End of Assateague (near the Ocean City inlet) when a nasty storm hit the island on January 4, 1992. The storm created substantial over wash leaving the horses in critical danger. Chance was the only stallion able to successfully lead his entire band south to safety through the storm. Twelve northern horses drowned that day; three others survived by finding safety in the dunes - mare T6K (pregnant at the time), stallion M12AF "Comma Head" and only one of his mares: X1. Later, in 2005, when Chance was 19, T3KV "Coach Thomas" took over his band and he went into "retirement." M6K "Saddleback" was also retired and living mostly in the Oceanside walk-in campgrounds. He and Chance teamed up and spent the rest of their years together.
