AIA hosts fine artist, Karen McLain, October 20, 2018; 9am -5pm to Paint the Magic of Assateague Island with Karen McLain. Join this one-day workshop to focus on painting the landscape at the National Seashore. Limited to 12, participants will enjoy a morning demonstration and discussion on aspects of shape, light, texture, and edges. Explore rhythmic shapes of waves, light and reflection of the marsh, and textures within the warm and cool forms of the dunes. Emphasis will be on creating strong shapes, starting with quick thumbnail sketches. Capturing vivid color as well as the value of using a limited palette to express the magic and atmosphere of Assateague. Demonstrations on the use of palette knife and larger brushes for speed and texture will be covered. Individual instruction will be given. Portable equipment is required – Students will be working outdoors. A suggested materials list will be provided upon registration.
Artists have long painted outdoors, working in natural light to see and to be inspired by nature while immersed in its element. Registration for this class is $125 and includes all instruction sessions, use of classroom space, drinks and snacks. Lodging, meals and park entrance fees are not provided in the registration fee. Information on lodging options is available upon request and include camping on the island and hotel accommodations are available within 10 miles of Assateague Island National Seashore in the towns of Berlin, West Ocean City, and Ocean City, Maryland.
Spaces will be filled on a first come first served basis. Once registered, you will receive a receipt as confirmation followed by detailed workshop information. Cancellation Policy: For all cancellations made by registered participants, AIA will retain a $25 administrative fee. If AIA cancels the workshop participants will receive a full refund.
